Singapore trounce Palestine, big win for Lebanon

BANGKOK, Oct 9 (Reuters) - Singapore had one foot in the second round of Asia's 2010 World Cup qualifying after romping to a 4-0 win away to Palestine on Monday.

Lebanon took a sizable advantage into the second leg after beating India 4-1 but Syria left it late to seal their victory over war-ravaged Afghanistan, scoring all their goals in the final 17 minutes to win 3-0.

Playing in Doha because of the volatile security situation in Palestine, Singapore's Shi Jiayi scored a goal either side of halftime to give the city-state a clear lead.

John Wilkinson added a third for the Southeast Asian champions on 73 minutes before prolific frontman Noh Alam Shah capped off the victory in Qatar with an 86th-minute strike.

'It was a good result,' Singapore's Serbian coach Radojko Avramovic said. 'It was good to see all the things we tried out at training finally coming off.'

Yemen beat the Maldives 3-0 but Asian Cup qualifiers Oman were not so convincing, taking only a two-goal advantage into the second leg away to lowly Nepal, who are ranked 106 places below them.

India took a shock lead against Lebanon on 30 minutes through Sunil Chhetri but Roda Antar levelled the score five minutes later to give the hosts the momentum.

Mohamad Ghadar scored a second half brace and Mahmoud El Ali added another to complete the rout.

In earlier matches, Thailand made an ideal start to their campaign with a stylish 6-1 thumping of strugglers Macau, with returning forward Surayuth Chaikamdee - who was dropped for the Asian Cup - grabbing two goals.

Asian Cup quarter-finalists Vietnam were made to rue their misfiring in front of goal after losing 1-0 at home to the Gulf champions United Arab Emirates and Tajikistan scored a second-half equaliser to earn a 1-1 draw away to Bangladesh.

Forty-three Asian countries are vying for four places in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

An additional berth in the 32-team finals is up for grabs for the fifth-placed Asian team if they can beat the winner of Oceania's qualifiers in a playoff.

When your best is just not good enough

Oh dear, 1 miss arrows and i dropped 2 places. from 2nd in the first rounf to 4th overall after the second round. The 'what if..' process i going on in my head again. 'what if i dod not miss that arrow, i would have at least been 3rd' and it goes on.

the nasty 'M' in the score scard really made me think so much. M stands for more, MORE TRAINING. the more the M, the MORE the trainings. I must work hard from now on. I must not leave sight of my goals anymore. Tired is not a reason but only an excuse.

It's okay, cos I know I', still recovering from my own sporting set back not too long ago. I want to reignite my competitive spirit again. I want to win.

Thanks to my friends who are always supporting me and adviced me to smile even though it was a 'bad day'. I'm really glad to have found some cool friends in NIE.

Nevertheless, when your best is just not good enough, it's time to work hard babe. Haha.

Intrinsic Motivation - In Me

After watching the first part of this film during Intro to PE, i had the rush of motivation to fight on. And to relate to my own sport, I somewhat knew what I needed to do and to do it better.

There's something out there that I really want. I put everything aside for that ultimate achievement. Sacrifices will be made and it still dosen't garantee success. The road is long yet worth taking.

I'm not lazy when it comes to sports, it's the lack of motivation and the drive no move on. *sigh*

Cold Cold night

The night was cold, my heart was even colder. thoughts of the past suddenly rush through me. I had no blanket as I brought it to hall already. *so drama* haha. Anyway, one of my friend was not feeling great either. Took some time to console her, being a 'nice friend'.

Yub, it's all about choices and I've made my choice. Live with its consequences then I will.

I need a new blanket as the one in hall is too small. Unable to cover my whole body!

Got tons of assignments to do and yet I'm lagged behind. The educational theorist are driving me nutzz, starting with Lev Vygotsky.

hey hey, it's 5 weeks into school already. And im finally getting into the mood of studying. What have I been doing for the past 4 weeks then? Can't believe time just flew past week by week. Already handed in 1 essay and done 1 presentation. Many many more to go.

Met lots of new people in school. I should say met many new groups of people: GESL, EduPsycho, CritPerspective, PESS. Yeah. So many people to meet and so many names to remember.

So this is that university life is all about? I'm still exploring though. Took me quite a while to get used to hall life. It's not about the activities, but rather having the discipline to hit the books. Pressure is setting in as is see all the chiem chiem stuff being brought across during tutorials and i know i had to do something.

Just registered for NIE-NTU last friday and yeah, I'll be a student onoce again from this Wednesday onwards. Will be attending the Physical Education & Sports Sciece Freshmen Orientation Camp 2007 (PESS FOC) from 25th to 28th July. I heard it's gonna be fun and tiring cos the seniors will make us do all sorts of nonsense..hahah

Mike only jio me to Hall 9 on the day it self cos Kelvin, the current Hall president was there. But the only problem is that I do not have a roommate =(. Anyway I was offered Hall 14 officailly. Just waiting now to see if I can get a transfer to Hall 9. Hall 9 is also nearer to the sports comples and SRC.

It seemed that everything was going well, until I saw everything I worked so hard for came crumbling down on me. Somehow I felt that someone out there is playing tricks on me again. Haiz, to bad, I just gotta make changes to my life and move on. In fact, making some tough and cruel decisions.

To become a member of this year's SEA Games team(archery) was my long dream since I ORDed from NS last year. And when I made it after the trails in May, I thought I had my sight set on the Games itself. Who would have thought that I will pull out of the team. It was a very hard decision to make, really. I spent countless night thinking over it and how it will affect my morale and training. I thought real hard. The pressure from the association, myself, and the archery community, I just couldn't take it anymore. I consulted Albert for advice, and he told me to take a break if I really needed to. Dear fans out there, I will n0t be going for SEA Games this year. Sorry guys. Rest assures that I will work hard for the next one.

Sorry to those that I let down and the one that I have to let go.

Taipei AGP was a disaster in the making even before I left Singapore. Confidence was all time low. So were my training results. True enough. I did not even qualify for the Individual Knock Out round. Sigh. At least I did not shoot that badly for Team event. That’s my only consolation to bring home. Another point is that remember to bring more money overseas next time...hahaha.

With no more international competitions for me this year, I can focus on my training. I really wanna be good. Even better than my current best.

Hey hey, happy birthday to me on the 23rd of may and I'm 23 this year! yay~

got a pleasant surprise in school today when my colleagues threw a little surprise for me. THey bought a sinful chocolate cake with loads of cream and choc.

Then dear brought me to this steak house at Vivocity, the portion was HUGE!!!! and i only ate 3/5 of it. I couldn’t even finish the side dishes. So wasteful. The waitress gave the 'duh' expression on her face when she cleared our plates. haha. Next time we will only order 1 main dish and share it. They also gave me a complimentary birthday mud pie.

Then when i got home, my family was waiting for me to cut the cake. That's cake #3!! to many cakes. That’s why i ran extra this morning. lolx.

Thanks to everyone, I enjoyed my birthday.
Although I didn't receive many gifts, as usual, they gifts from dear were special cos i know it means a lot to me and even more to dear =)

How not to be stressed.

Stress is defined as A mentally or emotionally disruptive or upsetting condition occurring in response to adverse external influences and capable of affecting physical health, usually characterized by increased heart rate, a rise in blood pressure, muscular tension, irritability, and depression.

How not to be stress? Sometimes I ponder over it. But it seems to be hovering all around me, like it or not. I keep it tugged and not let it go out of hand. That's what I hoped for. But more than i thought so, it always leaked out. Either that, it would burst through me.

Am I not allowed to be stressed?
Am I not supposed to be or to feel stressed?

I'm human too, I have my problems and I have my worries. Don't anyone see it that way.
Although I dont usually show it, It's in there, In me......somewhere.

It seems tha everything I do is wrong. Nothing seems to be right. and if you don't see it, I'll be all stressed out............in silence.

Feeling the heat

Hot hot hot. Can you feel the heat? I can only imagine what it would be like standing in the heat.....the heat of everything that is. I'm beginning to feel it. Not just the physical heat but also the mental ones.

Stress begins to sit in. So does fatigue. I really need to compose myself, cos I haven't been myself lately. Now that Fandy has left the school, I got a form class all to myself. I find myself loosing my temper quote easily lately. I really don’t know why. Am I too strict? or do I just want good from my students. PE becomes quite boring, from my point of view, because I had to pause every now and then to repeat my instructions and getting the class to keep quiet. Duties, responsibilities, discipline, teaching, marking, running up and down, find PE stores. That's all in a day's job.

I getting worn out. Oh my, I’m only 5 months into teaching and it's taking a toll on me. The heat from my family, as usual, friends, my other half, archery etc etc....it never ends. It's just like a snowball, the longer it rolls, the bigger it gets. Got to find a way to first stop it from rolling then to put a stick of dynamite to demolish this huge snowball. I'm sorry that I hurt many people along the way, especially to the one that I love, and to those innocent pupils that always get it from me because of their naughty classmates.

I'm really really sorry. I just be a big sotong in our eyes. I hope the forecast is cool weathers ahead.

Best start for the local archer who shot two 10s out of his first three arrows to lead by two points after the first end (28-26). However, the Russian came back from behind, himself shooting a 10 and a pair of 9s in the second end, while his opponent was having a hard time shooting 9-8-7. The advantage was to Tsyrempilov by two points half way. The match became tenser, the two archers both scoring a pair of 10s in the third end. Training Before Work

I had to go for training before work today. Trying out for the first time. Archery Training and yes, It's at Zhenhua Range. Halfway across the island and my work place is at Guillemard(Kallang). I reached the range about 0910 and left at 1100. although it was just a short training, but it was very tiring. Coach cheanged a few things on my form. She mentioned that it was changed before, just that when i started to work this year, everything went back to square one. To think aboutit, I felt very sian. Something I worked so hard on in the last 6 months became nothing at all. Yeah. It looks like an u hill journey. Jia you.

I'm glad that i have the support from my friends and collegue. I really appreciate it. Thank you all.

I must get tused to training and working at the same time. It can get really very tiring. Well, If you want something bad enough, You will definately go the distance.

let's say i've something to tell you. But then again who's listening or reading? let's say it's something important. But then again does it even regards you? well, here's a little update on this life of mine on the 7th of April 2007.

Since I came back from Bangkok on Feb, many things took place. I hadn't had the time to blog it and let me sum it up in 1 entry, I hope. I shifted table in school. Was hiding in one corner of staff room 2 but was made to shift down to staffroom 1 and what more table 1. Smack at the entrance of the staff room. Everyone could see me and I could see everyone, even the students. Got to know more teachers in the process, ie Liana, Jayne, Yee Jia, Hisham, Yan Ling, Mei Ling. You would probably noticed that most teachers are female. Male teachers are really rare. Became busier in school. I've got CCA(basketball) NAPFA test, East Zone Table Tennis, Brought the WUshu team for competition, Sports days is coming up. I volunteered to help with the cadet scouts camp and the prefects leadership camp. Dam on-the-ball right? That's me. What to do. Nothing to do always find things to do. Oh, I also need to do up the staff lounge, since im an interior designer.haha.

Then there's SEA Games trails, Malaysia training camp in June. Taipei AGP also in June. Asian Championship in September and Iran AGP in October and SEA Games(hopefully can go) in December. This year is going to be very hectic year. I need to train more. Dont really train enough since I started working.

Oh, I almost forget. I went to NTU for an interview regardiong my non-academic achievements. Hopefully I can convert to a Degree Programme in NIE. =)

I'm back from Bangkok on the 6th this month. Although I came back without any medals, the experience I've gained was much more valuable than another other things.

Actually I wasn't at all confident about this competition at all. I was not performing anywhere close to my current best and things just got worse since his week before at the 1st AAS Archery Championship. I screwed up the long distance shooting and the total score was way below my average. Totally disgusted and disappointed by it. That feeling just did not go away and in one way or another, it is affecting my mind.

I could not shoot properly during both the official and unofficial practice rounds. Not to mention the ranking rounds. I somehow manage to gain a bit of confidence during the Individual Knockout round and beat the Vietnam archery 104-98 with my last 6 arrows hitting 10,10,9,9,9,9 and made it to the 2nd round. Up next was Wan from Malaysia. We had a tie score on our first end f 6 arrows at 54 points each. It was a battle of the mind and I lost 110-100 in the end.

We lost to Bangladesh the following day during the Team Knockout. WeiBin misfired the last arrow on the 2nd end due to lack of time and it missed the target completely. Although I shot a perfect score on my last 2 arrows, we still lost by 3 miserable points. Really wasted as it was suppose to be an easy match. Better luck in future.

The 2nd leg for this year's AGP will be in Taipei, Taiwan. I hope to make it into the team. Not forgetting about SEA games this year. Jia you

Singapore beat Malaysia in Asean semi-final thriller

Singapore are through to the final of the Asean Football Championship, defeating arch-rivals Malaysia 5-4 on penalties in a thrilling encounter.
Defending champions Singapore were locked 1-1 against Malaysia after regulation time, forcing their semi-final match into extra time in front of a 55,000 capacity crowd at the National Stadium here.

Neither side scored after a tough 30-minute battle, prompting a penalty shootout.

Singapore finally emerged victors after keeper Lionel Lewis saved Malaysia's fifth shot from Khyril Zambri, sending the crowd into wild celebrations.

It was an agonising end for Malaysia who started the match in scintillating form, with Eddy Helmi Manan unleashing a powerful shot in the 57th minute that slipped past the Singapore keeper.

My Job, My Life

Since I've become a teacher, my life has been transformed into something meaning full to both my 'customers' and myself. I teach, I share, and i have my moments of joy and sorrows. I start to realise how much dedication a teacher has to put in to ensure he/she gets her job done. From another perpective, it's no longer a job. rahter, it is a commiment that I chose to make.

p/s I just realised that i sign in at 0655hrs every morning and sign out at 1855hrs almost everyday for this week.

Teaching is not the real big deal in school. Almost anyone proficient with certain skills or knowledge is able to teach. But the big question mark I have over my head every single day, is about how to make my students learn and enjoy the process of learning. Was I too straight forward? Was the instructions not clear? Do they know what they are doing? It becomes a daily routine to look at myself more than I look at them(students).

When my students disobey and the class go chaotic, was it me or is it them? Whose's in the wrong? I was disheartened during one of my relief class. I was suppose to teach 2 hours of English since their teacher was on medical leave. She adviced me over the phone to go very slowly as the pupils in that class was generally slower than the rest. As much as I tried, things started to get out of hand when I realised they did not understand the way I delivered the lesson. One of the pupils commented that my lesson was boring and they did not understand. I guess I am still quite used to the standards and pace of my own learning. I really had to push back to gear 1 for them. This is something I had to get used to, and do it fast!

I was rather traumaticed after that 2 hours. I told myself to brace up for the challenges ahead as this is only 1 class. My mentor told me it's OK and these things do happen from time to time. Sometimes the things that we plan for just do not work out. Hours of planning and preparations wll just go down the drain sometimes.

8 more year? 16? 40?..haha..

..... when i was in primary school. playing basketball in the school team for 3 years.

It's my turn to lead KHS senior team for its first game this season. It was against Changkat Primary School. Although we lost, it definately brought back many thoughts. I was just like these students back then. Playing for the pride of our school. It was definately a tiring day as i had to be the time keeper for the game.

I stayed back in school to play around the basketball court when all the team members went home. I still have that little touch. But i'm glad that i picked up the neccessary skills for a good game of basketball. Thanks coach (Ms Thiam) for all the guidiance and that I am able to play basketball well today, and may I be able to impart some of these skills to my younglings.

I never thought I would be back in touch with basketball since my serious ankle sprain in secondary school. Which is also one fo the many reasons i switched to many other sports and eventually fell in love with archery. I hope to meet my basketball coach one of these days. She's one of those inspirational figure in my up bringing.

The Tampines Rovers forward scored twice in the first half after Muhammad Ridhuan had opened the scoring and added four more after the break as the Lions scored eight second-half goals to secure an easy three points for the home side.

Yeap, I'm refering to non other than my gold Helix handle. I'm gonna represent Singapore in the 1st leg Asian Archery Grand Prix 2007, Bangkok from 31st Jan to 6h Feb. This will be my second international outing. I hope I won't be as nervous as before. Any I scored m personal best of 310(out of 360) for 70M, and to my suprise, it was also the top score for the day.

I hadn't have luxury of time to train with Coach Choi since I started work as a teacher. I only trained with her for the first time this year only yesterday. I shot at 70m and had a not too bad day. hitting mostly the gold ring (9&10 points). The only frustration is tha I find it difficult to have a good grouping. I suspect it's the bow tuning. I shall do something about it by this week and see what happens.

Cheers to me for clinching 2nd place in the Sembawang Archery Champinship 2007. We only shot indoor, 50m for onl 1 round. I scored 298(out of 360), not a bad score but I think I could have done better. AND... Azman shot an arrow which hot the rear of 1 of my arrows and not onl did it broke the nock ($2-can buy a pack of chicken rice), it also spliced the arrow's shaft. It's gone....$50 gone...sianz. But I also tell myelf it's part of the game.

Anyway my team for this Thailand shoot is Wei Bin& Henry& Benson.

met up with my 'parallel' teacher that morning and she told me we had PE lessons beffore recess and EL after. We will be taking P6 PE and P5 EL. As it was my first ever teaching job, I was kinda nervous when I was standing in front of the 40 odd pupil class. Though they were much tiny-er than myself, there was a certain kind of fear that sits quietly in me.I also had to do an internal reflief because 1 of the teachers was on medical leave. That's when the whole 'horrible' thing started.

30mins of horror.p3: period after recess. P3 students 1st yr in AM session. they had all the energy to move around, to talk and to make funny faces at you. OMG!

I tried as hard as I can to keep my cool. I was tasked to get the class to do some mathematics homwork that their teacher had assigned them to do. Some were doing, most were talking, the boys were playing a fool once they realised I was their relief teacher'.

"ring ring ring.........!!!"Phew....saved by the bell.

The other contract teacher also came back from a relief class and he had the same expression on his face. Shocked. Traumatised. The power of children cannot be under estimated these days.

First Day In School

no school bell, no rush of students to catch the morning assembly, no anxious parents waiting outside school. Just a stormy sky and a cold gush of wind.

I stepped into Kong Hwa School to attend the staff conference as instructed by Steffanie, the school's admin. Seems to have lost the feeling of going back to school since my polytechnic days. Wow, # yrs in poly and 2 years in the army and now I'm back to school again. The only difference is that I'm a Teacher instead of being the student.

I was the first 'new teacher' to arrive that morning. Followed by Ms Constance(back from maturnity leave), Mei Ling(new posting) Naz(new posting) and Han Wen(new teacher just like me). Mr Chan (VP) and Mr Ong (P) then greeted us and told us that the meeting was held in the AVA room at 0830.

The meeting lasted the whole day. I thought it was only half day.

I was also assigned to be part of the school's basketball team. haha. Ironically I was a school basketball player when I was in primary school days, kinda like going back in time and relive those memories.

The school's Obiesity rate also rose from 9% to 11% this year. So it's down to the PE department to get those stats down next year. P5 Leadership camp in March and a P4 camp coming up too. CCA orientation in late Jan. Loads of projects coming up. Gonna be a busy time for me.

Oh, I gotta start getting used to being addressed as 'Mr Pang'. haha. 'Feng Lao Shi' also can.

It has been raining non stop (maybe stop for a while before it starts to rain again) for 3 days already. Is there so much water up there? i wondered. This weekend's AAS Archery Championship had already been cancelled due to forecasted bad weathers. sigh. Spirits are dampened by this super duper wet weather. i think it's a good time for the band Wet Wet Wet to revive their career here. haha

Jokes aside. I went to school today! Kong Hwa School that is. I've been posted to this school for my contract teaching phase as a Physical Education and Englisgh Teacher. Cool eh? haha. I simply love the enviornment. Meeting lasted the whole day.

Shit. initial plan was to head to coffee bean to study my final theory test and read my book then took the test in the evening. but meeting on ended at 1630 and the test was at 1845. and i havent do my last min revision yet.haha. nvm, I was confident. I ate chicken rice for dinner at eunos market and forced myself to read the 10 yr series for my test.

Suprisingly, i was greeted by 3 suprises and 1 good news at CDC(Comfort Driving Centre) .

1. Jennifer (TP archery) was taking the same test as me.
2. Dun Xiang's (OCS platoonmate and fellow ENgineer Officer) Girlfriend was also taking the same test as me.
3. Bum into Gan Yeok(TP Sports Club) while leaving the complex. He was taking his Basic Theory.

And lastly the good new: I PASSED MY FINAL THEORY!!!

Some people said that the time just after you ORD from army is the best time to go on a holiday. True, I totally agree. But instead of going on a holiday, I ended up doing something which until today I am still busy with (4 months since ORD) and I', gonna start my teaching career in 2 weeks time.

Where got time for holidays?

the truth is, the only few reasons that I ever needed to leave Singapore were:

1. school study trip
2. Competitions
3. Army exercise

I wanna go on a holiday , really. But I don't have the time, I don't have the money. So much commitments, so little me. Sacrifice. haiz... I envy those people who goes on holidays one after another and those who goes on shopping sprees.
